New and saying hi from texas

Ok well just what it says, I'm new to Z cars but not new to cars them self.

I picked up a 280ZX-T the other night, I was told that it was a DD but the guy lied really bad. Its cool tho, he is sending me 300.00 to help with all the hoses, gaskets, and other stuff wrong with the car. The car is pretty beat up on the bottom but the only real rust iv found with it is there is a little censer on the corner of the floor pan. Other then that it all looks service.

Right now im in the proses of pulling the Intake and Exhaust mani from the car to replace all the gaskets. Also my down pipe is broke so im looking for a cheap aftermarket one.

Wile im in here I want to pull everything that the car does not need to run off the car. Can you guys tell me every thing I can pull and block off the make this a much simpler setup. I like things nice and simple.

Here are some pics of the car:

And can I delete all the hoses that start with that charge pipe and go to this as a way to blow off the exsese boost? I know that it would make me run rich but if I could get all that stuff off the intake it sure would be less cluttered.

Will this stile BOV work:

Thanks guys for any and all help, And let me know what yall think of my hoop.

But for what purpose? Once you get to know the engine bay, it is pretty simple. Just pulling stuff off isn't going to gain you much.

Those pipes & hoses serve purposes. Do you still want it to run right? Do you need it to pass emissions?

I do not need it to pass emissions, I need it to crank up and run. It does not get cold here so I do not see why I need rad fluid going everywhere trying to heat it up faster.

I need simple and I have seen it done.

Come on guys I know im new and that yall might want to keep all this stuff on your cars but I just dont want it on mine.

I found a intake for 125.00 that has all this extra stuff shaved off, smothed, and ready to go. I just need to know if thats a good deal and that I can use it.

those pipes and hoses are part of the reason your l28et has kept running for almost 30years, maintains 21-22 mpg and actually cranks on the first turn of the key...

and they are also the reason it wont give you good gas milage or crank in the morning...

Okay... remove tb coolant lines, remove all hoses from behind air regulator, plug all holes, run a hose direct from the j-pipe to the air regulator. Remove & cap all small hoses, remove canister. There ya go.

If you do it right. You might want to pick up a Haynes repair manual first.

Can I use the 125.00 mani with EVERYthing shaved off of it on my car?

And with the POV shaved off wont I need a BOV to get rid of the exsese boost?

No on both parts.

I didn't say to take EVERYTHING off. And the POV and BOV have two different jobs. Here... I searched for you:

you should have a BOV on it no matter what to stop compressor surge, all the POV does is pop if there is a boost spike. you can use that mani but if CAN cause running issues if to much is deleted. the bottom line you need the air regulator setup for the fast idle and the idle speed control. everything else can pretty much be removed. but you shouldnt remove CRAP until you get the car running perfectly. once thats done, you can remove one thing at a time and make sure the car still runs good. thats the best way to do it.

What it is, is that every hose on the car is dry rotten. So I figgerd I would delete all I could to make it more simple

"If you put a BOV in you can take the POV out and you're not asking for any trouble. I'd go with the BOV and just cap the POV personally. The POV doesn't provide any protection for the compressor since its aft of the TB. A BOV will provide this protection as well as handle the limited duties of the POV. But capping off the POV without installing a BOV is definitely asking for trouble, especially if you start raising boost."

This is what I read, So I can pull the POV if I go back with a BOV. So where would the BOV go and can I use the one I have?

i still dont think you get the difference and function of either. but yes install the BOV and take out the POV, its pretty useless if you ask me.

We understand what you are going for. Did you click on that first link I posted? Bleach lays it out.

EDIT... this is what I'm currently working on (de-webbing the turbo intake mani):

ewww... good luck with that, i cut as much as i could with my whizz wheel on my turbo intake... err... well 82 NA webbed intake, and yeah, it was about where you are with yours and then said, MEH! good enough.

and yeah we know what your going for, and final answer, POV is dumb, if you can find a pipe fitting to plug it then do so and install your BOV k?

Yes and thats why I dont need all the bull.
And do I install the BOV on the charge pipe where that one port is? after that can I pull all those other hoses off the intake and block them all off?

And since someone says yes and the other says no, can I use the intake I found that is conpletey shaved of all the ports minus a few vac ports?

place the BOV about 4 inches in front of the TB, you might also want to consider running a z31T EFI system.

So I need the cut a hole in my charge pipe and add a 1" lead?

And is the Z31T EFI stuff plug and play?

the z31T EFI isnt quite plug and play, but its pretty damn close and you lose that AFM and get a modern MAF.
