Beautiful! - and doesn't look a day over 35.

I would love to work on her. If you can, keep us up to date on your progress. This can be amazing, you know. They don't make 'em any more.

XenonS130 You'll want to go through the EFI trouble shooting section. Common problems are the AFM (yours is missing lol) and the CHTS. Hook everything up and start through the trouble shooting section and update us with some more info...

Yeah. He says go to XenonS130 as a basic reference page for your new baby. Bookmark it. Download the owner, service manuals, etc. (the link is on the right. Gets you to an amazing set of manuals automagically and you can download and print 'em out - or just store 'em.).

Go through the manuals for basic troubleshooting sections wherever they apply to your baby and her current probs. Get familiar with them all.

Translations
TPS Throttle position sensor
EFI Electronic Fuel injection
AFM Air Flow Meter
CHTS Cylinder head temperature sensor
WTF (cannot be posted here)

Gonna be a great canyon runner if that means speeding on unposted canyon roads. (No canyons here, sorry to say. ) We will want video for that stuff! No black & white stills, plz.

Welcome!

Parts for your rebuild

For parts, you can begin searching at car-part.com. Just enter your vehicle info, select USA only, sort results by Distance from your zip, check out the results. They tell you the yard, location and phone. Usually you can get a return warranty for all but electrical stuff. You pay shipping.

There are other used part hubs but I have the best results from car-part. The other ones send your phone to the seller and they call you. No need for that.

You luck out if you can find a car still on the lot. It does happen. Gives you the pick of the litter. 280s are rarer now - but they do show up.

That 280 will be a knockout.

Learning your car is half the battle, and helping others with they're s is also an added benefit, no better satisfaction then fixing something. Cheers and keep it up.

Sensitive is right, the whole electrical system. It probably has to do with the Z's dependence on electronics to keep everything balanced and running just right - all directed by an ECU that is kinda primitive compared to what came later. If the alternator doesn't put out a min. 14-14.5 volts to a strong battery that produces 12-12.5v under any load, the electronics go wacky. Stuff all over the car doesn't work right and you go crazy trying to find the problem. It can be a loose terminal clamp or sloppy ground causing the whole mess. So lock all of that down solid and meter your charge and storage capacity. When something weird happens check the power supply first. Z31s are even more finicky.

Sounds great. (Without PS assist, a Z31 is like a truck..). But looks like you are heading to something very special.

Remember to keep us in the loop when you can. And post some pics for us droolers...
