I have a 82 280zx turbo, a few months ago after starting and turning it off at a few different places it would not start you could herar a clicking noise underneath the glove compartment,after a few hours it would start and everything was fine,happened a few other times but would eventually start.Long story short shes not wanting to start turns over has spark fuel, changed the fuel pump battery cables etc.... Ok guys really need your help as this is our only vehicle since in the beginning of the year I rolled my 83 280zx and totalled it.

What did you do to verify it has spark and fuel at all cylinders?

An engine needs 3 things to start:
-Proper amount of fuel
-Proper spark distribution
-Proper compression

So... is fuel getting to all cylinders? Are spark plugs in proper order and spark getting to all cylinders? Tested compression?

I'd start with pulling the spark plugs to see if they are dry, or wet with fuel. If it really does have spark and fuel, then it's likely flooded, usually caused by a faulty or disconnected AFM and/or CHTS.

WE had a friend (mechanic)?? check it out because my other half was getting frustrated said the spark plugs were all good wires are all in order BUT tomorrow will be going to change out spark plugs and a few other things going to check and clean all connectors,I do have another question? Will the starter from my 83 280zx work on this car? I have totaled my 83 but the engine and tranny and everything inside is good, just the body and frame well i would rather not say, its not a good feeling landing upside down in these cars... I noticed today that the starter seems to be dragging and I will be needing to pick up a new battery, will get back to you and let u no what has happened


OK she does still have life in her.Got it started today but would only stay started if you would take off the fuel line and plug it up once you would reconnect the fuel line wouldnt start, we have checked all lines filters and what are we not doing right??

Check fuel pressure and see if it's within spec, if you've checked the other things mentioned above by NismoPick. Do you have the cold start injector and O2 sensor hooked up?

If I remember correctly (I haven't owned a Z in a quite a few years), the starter from your 83 will work.
