Cool New Gauge

Hey i pulled this 130mph gage out of a 79 zx in the bone yard. I have a 1980 280zx as you can see and i was wondering is there an easy way to install.. Does the needle come off or do i have to put the odometer in if so is there a way to reset it.

You get to remove the gauge cluster, tear into it, remove the old speedo unit, and install the 130 unit. Lots of fun. There's not really any way to recalibrate it on your own. It's set for 3.7 gears.

All 280ZX speedo's are set to the same ratio. It's the speedo cog in the transmission that is calibrated to the differential gearing depending on how many teeth the cog has.

You're local mechanic should know if there's someone in your area that can calibrate your speedo and reset the odometer to your correct mileage.

It's a pretty easy conversion that is done all the time on these cars. Here's a pic of my 210mph speedo:

Outside. It's where the speedo cable hooks on to the tranny. 10mm bolt & you can pull out the cog.
