Hi everyone,

A newbie here. I've had my 1982 280ZX Non-turbo for about 6 months and love it. It is 100% stock with no mods at all. Very good condition with T-tops. 125,000 miles.

I bought it from a guy who had it 99% of its life. It sat idle most of the time. Upon buying and actually driving it, things started breaking like hoses, water pumps, ignition switches, etc... Nothing big.

Now it needs brakes. The only dealer in Dallas doesn't have any OEM in stock and I was hoping to change them tomorrow.

Any ideas on where (major auto parts store) I can get a good set of pads that will not throw so much dist on the wheels?

w00t! Welcome to ZDriver!

Most all parts stores (AutoZone / Napa / etc) have high performance brake pads. You can also get various ones from the big Z parts places: www.thezstore.com and www.blackdragonauto.com

Thanks for the info.

I was afraid that the AutoZone-type places would only have cheapo pads that were junk.

Just ask them for semi-metalic or ceramic pads (or premium organic). This is a good read on brake pads: http://www.partsamerica.com/ChoosingBrakePads.aspx

Here's some for $25: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/PBC01/24-5504

And some really good shiz: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/PBC02/24-5512

Welcome. I've had my z about as long as you but joined the fourum just before I bought the car and it's story is almost Identical to yours.

All the auto parts stores near where I live only had the cheap organic pads in stock when I changed my brakes. And yeah they trow up a ton of dust and are already beggining to squeak (I've only had them a coule months). If you want better pads check out specialty places there is a sticky for where you can buy Z parts.

Everyone an this site is cool and very helpful. Have fun.

Thanks. I went to O'Reilly's and they had the organic and semi-metallic "house brand". No thanks. I'll go elsewhere.
