Need some advice

Hello I put a new alternator in my 1983 280Zx and cheecked the voltage with a meter and is is running close to 16 volts?? The car ran around 14 with the older alternator that I replaced. I bought the stock alternator from a local parts chain --It wasn't expensive. Are there other alternators out there that have more consistant output?I'm affraid this will damage my electrical system? 12 volt barttery --- run ---12 volts throughout the system??

The car is pretty stock execpt for air intake, new injectors. I figure it is a wiring issue and I need to find a electrical expert in the Baltimore area.

Thanks for your help

Parts store reman alternators are notorious for being duds. Just take it back for a refund or get a GM 1-wire alternator. The stock 280zx alt is ~55amps. The GM alternators are 70-150amps. Search the forum, we've discussed it plenty.

Be sure you hooked it up properly too. There's a terminal that needs constant power or it will cause overcharging. I have experienced this myself. Although it is entirely possible that it's just a bad rebuild, I'd just check to make sure its hooked up right first before bringing it back
