taken from the post...

Despite a common misconception, the F54 used in the turbo cars is NOT stronger than the F54 used in the non turbo cars. The ONLY difference was the Pistons. There were variations in the F54 castings, but they were the same for NA and Turbo blocks. The F54 is however considered supperior over the N42 blocks.

only difference other then the head..
F54 Non Turbo
Pistons: Flat Top

F54 Turbo
Pistons: Dished

They are basically the same except the pistons which are dished on the turbo for lower compression.

and the turbo pistons have different ring lands to help promote flex so they don't break the lands out under detonation. so don't get sneaky and try to find some old N42/N47 block pistons. They have the same dish as the later turbos just the wrong ring lands. But I know some people will say ring lands are unimportant once you get some much boost cranked up because you'll even break the turbo lands out.

someone here actually tried to fit the earlier pistons into an F54 block and they weren't compatible. Sat up above (or was it below) the block deck.

why not use the flat tops ? that will give a more modern aproach. a friend o fmine ran a flat top 90a set up and loved it !! much less lag .. more drivable and good power .. also 8.5 orso is stock compression for most turbo cars now.
