My parts car..... or maybe a Japanese Rat Rod?

Picked up a munched 280ZX - rusty as usual with 400K+ Kms on it. Was going to be a parts car but I drove it back.... hmmm - maybe build a rat rod out of it... It's not like I don't have enough parts....

Anyone else rad rodded an old parts S130?

There was a local classifieds rat rod w/ an L28ET a few years ago...

Strip it to the frame rails, build custom strut towers, and go-kart it.

Go for it

Even as a Rat Rod, I love the idea of saving an old Z from being parted out, and with all you expertise you would be the perfect person to pull it off. Could be your testbed for Mods, and knowing you it would turn out really cool. Just my 2 cents

Lol thanks for the credz PredatorZ but it's pretty rotten. I already have a nice solid but dinged up turbo I'm doing my mods on. If it's even plausable I'll do it

I'm already thinking high compression L28E with a turbo, intercooler, oil cooler hanging out the front, methanol injection and fender flares... definately more ideas than time lol.

and lemme guess, icbc wanted to write the car off. looks good already, time for a custom front end with integrated bumper/ airdam and some uber nice flares to get rid of the rear cancer.

The front left headlight bucket is mushed up and the inner fender is pushed sideways a bit as well. I'm sure the rad is off a bit as well. I'll make an adapter for the fenders so they mount properly.

The lady I bought the car from bought it cheap cheap for her son. Kid wreaked one side and kept driving it then I think they just decided to sell it as a parts car after he munched the other side wreaked the headlights and buckets and marker lights. I don't think they ever did try to put a claim in for it.

Just bought these flares...

I'm sure it did, look at how the hood lines up and the shape of the inner apron in the photo with the hood up- something definitely got tweaked.

I was gonna do this with my red one, crunched it in the same spot but I was just going a bit faster so it crunched a lot harder. I was gonna put eye bolts into the door hinge holes and pull it out with a chain on a truck enough to bolt a new door and fender on it but I decided not to when I realized I hit so hard that when I spun I somehow forced the rear cradle up through the floor and tore the bake lines back there, also bent the engine mount.

Nothing wrong with having a Frankenstein car to go do burnouts in
I like it, i'd leave it just how it is and go beat the hell out of it! Never seen a ratted out S130 though, that could be pretty cool in its own right, and hey it sure don't have to be perfect!

Nice progress

How does she look rust wise ? and on a totally Different subject, how does your wife feel about all the cars you have running and parts donors, my GF was on me all the time to get rid of my xtra cars, I was just wondering if you catch a lot of grief when even you bring another one home. If it wasn't for her, Id still have my 77 280, wasn't running, threw a rod, so it drove her crazy... "I just don't want to Live this way" was her fav saying, hehe, needless to say I ditched her after I sold my last one, should have bailed on her 1st

I bought my wife a '93 300ZX Vert in mint condition.... that's the secret boys She's eyeing up an Roadster project so now I've got her way over onto the dark side

As far as rust goes I haven't taken a GOOD look at 'er yet. Looks like the floor boards are there - the rear spare tire well is pretty solid but it's rusted in the fender well above there - weird. If it's safe to drive I'll play with it - if not she'll get stripped down. There are lots of 280ZX parts still but it won't be long before these parts are super rare...

Wise

Ah, I see, wise man, win her over, have her embrace the hobby and invest her in it with hardware. I see a movie plot here. Zzzless in Victoria BC .... and they drove off into the sunset, happily ever after

... and with some fender flairs taped on. Not much time to play with the rat rodd idea as I've been messing with the '69 510 Z22 EFI turbo build
