I've got a 1979 280zx. Right now, it sounds like a tank. When I really press the gas pedeal hard, petrol could be smelled from inside the cabin.


The muffler is shot completely. It has two huge hole in it.


1. If I replace the muffler with a new one, would it make my 280zx sound nice?
2. Can any muffler just be welded onto the car?

 

The options are limitless... I'm not sure what brand mufflers are available to you in Europe, but I imagine there are plenty of performance options.

 

The fumes leaking into the cabin are usually exhaust leaks in the pipe further forward and not just at the muffler. You may want an exhaust shop to bend and install a new pipe all the way back along with a muffler.

 

Judging by your valve cover you have an NA, and MSA sells a pretty sweet header/exhaust kit for around 300 dollars. If i had an NA thats what i'd go with. 27 year old pipes are bound to be in need of repair.
