a lil vent

All that damn work. On the intake, replacing head gasket. Fighting the timing chain sproket. Everything. The sproket Alone with a freind, some 3/8 extension's all that, was 2 hr's. I get her all back together, Try to fire her up. and batt is dead. WTF.

Oh, And #3,#4, and #5 were shootin coolant, when headgasket was bad.

she no longer stalls when you hit the throtle quickly. And as before. She can not hold a steady idle.it will go from 800-1100 just idleing.

I spent an entire day on just vacume hoses and spot's/ from gas tank to engine bay. Took care of that when i did my intake clean up. Timing and AFM still to go.

these Z's are startign to test me. First bigg blue for a year. Never drove him. Now the black Z, did a chit load of work on him. I did not get any joy out of the black Z cause three cylinder's were being filled with coolant, and the timing was off. Now she is still runin like chit. i think the rings are bad on it or somthing. the smoke is the same. but a whole diff smell inthe smoke. still same color though.

sounds like you're runnin' hella rich yo

Set the timing first and foremost. Then try leaning out the AFM a little bit at a time (if you can get an A/F gauge that would help). Check the head temp sensor to make sure it's not your problem either.

the AFM don't have a screw on it. and the head sensor is questionable. I'll check it tomarrow.

The AFM you need to pop the black cover off, to change the lean/rich mixture. Look at the sticky in the technical part of the 280zx forums. It will tell you how to adjust the wheel inside. To lean it out, or richen it. Also another thing I do, is mark with a sharpie where it was, so I can go back to that tooth if I need to.

the white/gray out the pipe is prolly just residue from when it was leaking real bad, when my headgasket went, and i fixed it, i had white smoke for days of driving. coolant coats everything and needs a good warm run to get it out of the system, especially if you have a catalitic

yeh. this car has it's cat. All i am really trying to do is get this car runnin good enough for a few good last runs. And to feel what a stock Z is all about. cause bigg blue won't be stock at all when i drive it for the first time. The Rocker's are shot, rear end crossmember mouts are shot, rear end chunk rubber mount is shot. Maby for a First Time Z'er project sure, she would be a nice car to start with. body is soild. but i already have Bigg Blue.

I only suspect it's more than just residue simply for the fact that its also running like chit. What do the plugs say?

Fubar, does it smoke full time or only at idle. Does it smoke both when the motor is cold and fully warmed up? What about after a drive?

they only way you can tell it's smoking at idle is if you look directly at the tail pipe. there's a lil. when you get hit the throtle she smokes more. I have not goting to drive it yet since the head gasket change. I was realy wanting to get it goin right before i did.

So you traded the recent 280zx you got, for a '76 S30 280z? If so, it sounds like a great deal. What is the condition of it, we want to see pics man. And is it a 2 seater? You just got a Z, that I want for my next project. I have always wanted a S30. Good score man, and let's see a few pics. hehe
