These cars seem to have a long life, but how long is too long when you reach the point mile wise when ever thing seems to break? 200? Yeah I know "if a car is well taken care of then it can go forever", but I can't find a new 280ZX anywhere.
Thanks
Thanks
You won't really find a "new" 280ZX. For the most part the owners feel that they are too much fun to drive to let them sit.
The only instance I've ever found of a "new" Z-car was an '84ZXT-AE with about 74 miles on it. The owner took it around the block every week for almost 20 years!

My 83 280zx has 264,400 miles on it and it still runs fine. Power windows and locks still work, cruise still works, and the A/C is so cold I hardly ever use it. I just bought a parts car for the engine but have decided to try for the 300,000 mile mark first.
When I bought my z ($250) it had been sitting for a few years. I performed the normal upkeep without spending a ton of money and I drive it every day. The sun had baked the interior to oblivion. I am slowly repairing and replacing each piece. A few parts off e-bay and a whole lot of reading on this web-site, and I've got a nice car in only 8 months. Start with an OK car and listen to these guys here and you will do fine. I've found that most of the people here are willing and ABLE to help. (Not much of the normal Bull Puckey you find on other sites)
I'm not sure how many miles is too many. I let you know if my car ever hits that mark.

Well, the car will get to the point where "everything" seems to break... but you just have to get in there and replace all the wear components. Once they are fixed though, the same problems should not show up for a very long time.
My Z just went out on me. My engine runs strong still but I need to put in a new timing chain. The transmission went out yesturday at 219,000 miles. I have a spare to swap in. I'll take care of a few other things while the car is off the road, but no engine rebuild yet!
I replaced the fuel injectors at 150K, and re-greased bearings at 135K. I've rebuilt my brakes at 135K as a precaution. Nothing on the engine has really given me trouble. I had a power steering hose leak at about 210K. My power options all work and the cruise control still works. The A/C lost its charge before I bought the car 7 years ago...
