Im new and here is my project

Hi all...

Im new to your forum and wanted to present myself to everyone.

Im 27 and i have two kids, i manage a tuning shop.

i owned a 85 300ZX a few year ago, until i sold it a year ago because i tough id never need it again.

my actual and main project is going well but i missed somthing...

until this week when i saw an ad ... two 280ZX for sale cheap..(1000 for both)

i coulndt resist, i bought them right away.

now their mine and i got tons of project for it ( im reffering to both as one, you probably know why ), but its a long term project, my other car using most of my cash...

here is the first, an 82 auto NA (referred to as : THE BODY)

and her his the second one, an 81 manual NA (referred as : THE MECHANIC)

the red have an engine problem, she cant keep her idle and die under 3K, i think it may be the MAF

the black started right away, run like new, everything seem original on it

i have many spare parts, including a turbo manifold and a turbo

i would be curious to know your suggestion

i will explain my project in details later get your feedback

here is my actual ride

thanks for the read...

Ya those 15" turbo wheels are nice. The hoods on all 1982-83 280ZX's were the larger turbo vents like you have. The hood could very well be original.
Looks like a good project with a lot of parts to work with. Gotta have T-tops on a 2+2.

Damn, you got both of those cars for a $1000?! That's insane, they both look to be in really good shape. (well, except the part about one not running). They look great. You seem to have a couple of excellent cars for project. Congrats on the find.

Is it possible to change the strut towers if you have the towers? And are the coupe towers and 2=2 towers the same?

If you change out the towers just make sure measure everything atleast a few times. Not just so-so measurements either, we're talking exact here. If you weld in the new tower and it's off side to side or tweaked at an angle it's going to disturb the suspension geometry. Granted you have some playing room here as these cars weren't built exactly to specs, but you want it as close to perfect as you can get it. If the strut insalls at the wrong angle or too far in one direction you'll have different caster on either side of you car. Not good. It's not rocket science, and we're not talking thousandths of an inch here, but puting the shock tower in an inch off could cause some problems with geometry, and adversly affect the way your car handles. If you're planning on scrapping the body anyways, go for it. You got nothing to lose but time. Right?

Thats the smart way to do it. It be easier and cheaper(if you cant weld) to paint the red one then to try to fix the black one. Thats if you even want that paint scheme from the black one.
