How does the ECU know the crank angle for each piston?

Hi,

I got a question regarding EFI for my 1980 280ZX.

How does the ECU know the crank angle for each piston?

I dont think the 1980 have an angle sensor.

Looking at my FSM the only input to the ECU that makes sense is an input from the coil.

But this will only give you information about RPM, not the location for each piston.

Thanks

The ECU doesn't know the crank angle (non turbo) nor does it care. It doesn't control spark - the distributor does.

The ECU on a NA car looks at the engine speed from the distributor and fires all 6 injectors at the same time every complete engine revolution.

^^^ What they said.

There's a 6 pointed star in the distributor to control spark timing.
