Having trouble with my digital dash

My digital dash in my 1983 280ZX only provides the rpm's, speedometer stays at 0, and fuel does not show up. Is there a place where i can buy or fix my digital dash or should i just switch to analog.

Welcome to ZDriver!

Did both of these probs (speedo & fuel) start at the same time?

THe fuel wet first then a few days later the speed went and stays at 0. This happened like 6 months ago, ive been getting it up and running for about 1 1/2 years, before this it was behind my grandparents house for like 7 years rusting away, so the dash was not in use for 7 years

The cluster itself might just be going bad. It happens.
Switching to analog gauges requires that you change a few sending units as well. the easiest fix would be to find a used digital gauge set that works and just switch that out.

It may be your dash. But before you tear it out and replace it, make sure your speedo cable isn't kinked. If no kinks, check to see if it spins freely.

It could be a coincidence that the speedo cable got kinked, and the fuel sending unit froze all within a couple days. It could happen....

The digital dash is kind of neat and at the same time I hated it in my old 83' 2+2. Sunny days when the sun would hit it you could not read a thing on that dash. Not to mention in the right position it would just blind you. Plus that tach sucked once you hit over 3000 RPM. As there were maybe 2-3 spaces between 3k and 5k I believe?

The contacts on the digital dash connections might be corroded. With a little finesse you can resolder them yourself. Or, you can replace the digital dash power unit yourself. I did on my '87 300ZX and it works great. I found a replacement on e-bay for $50. Nissan wants $400.00 for a new unit which has to be ordered from Japan. http://nissanpartswarehouse.com

Sorry for the thread jack.

Hey Bleach, I bought that cluster from you to go in my new 83 280zxt with digital dash. What am I going to have to do? I thought it was just plug and play.

TXexit49,

I might have a Digital dash for you in a few weeks. PM me with your e-mail addy.

Well, I guess it wasn't a total thread jack.

I have an 86 z31 with the same problem. Only its the tach that doesn't work. When the gas is pressed all the tach lights shoot up, and when the gas is depressed all the lights come down. So the lights work just not the way they should. Should I take apart the dash and check the solders? Please help. Thanks.

Did you receive the new gauge harness as well?

I got lucky any the people on ebay sent me that. Cause it has an electric plug in that is essential, i think O.o, thats the way it is on mine in the garage.

It sounds like a bad connection to me. I'd start with the plugs. If not check for continuity in the cabling....
