Re: Has any body seen strut tower braces for 79 280zx
Yea I seen them last time I popped the hood lol. My father added them around 1989. Worst 300.00 he ever spent he claimed. Best bang for the buck is beefing up your sway bars. Add stiffer springs and rebuild your front end. Or go with a rack n pinion swap. Makes a whole different beast. Tower braces is like adding a fancy air filter. Everyone claims it adds so much. But in the end you really don't feel any improvement. Btw I had mine off for a valve cover leak. Was lazy and left it off. NO difference! But them back on for show. Hope that helps.
B.T.W. They did have tons of crappy add ons in the late 80s when the import craze first kicked off. Most of what was offered back then is no longer made. You can drive your self nuts creeping the web site claims they have a "performance" intake system "Add 100 hp today for your Z" then you dig into the site and its crappy knock off "universal" screws, keychains and t shirts ! Really pisses me off. Try black dragon. Com or EBAY most idiots think a horn pad from a Z will get there kids through college and they throw every Z related part on there. Good luck!
Lol and the front strut bars make the most difference in stiffening the S130 chassis up. Think about it - you already have a sway bar on the bottom and nothing on the top. Do you think adding a thicker one on the bottom on nothing on the top will be better than the stock and another stiffening member on the top of the strut towers? It's like having a box with three sides compared to one with four sides. Make one with thin walls top and bottom will be WAY more ridgid than one with twice as thick on the bottom and none on the top.
It's also the reason the strut towers rot away on the S130. The strut towers flex, the paint cracks on the porous seam sealer and water gets in and they rust the seams out.
