Gasket stuff

Ok Im replacing the timing cover has most of you know but Im not sure if I also have to replace the oil pan gasket as well and is the upper part part of the head gasket? I do NOT want any oil leaks on an engine with only 6 miles that I may swap out here soon.

Also do they make rubber valve cover gaskets? So I can just reuse them after messing with the valve lash.

i got a rubber and non rubber VC gasket before, you should replace the oil pan gasket when you remove the timing cover, but i think inorder to do that in the S130 you need to lift the motor up some, in the S30 with the manual rack you could squeez the pan off without touching anything else. the head gasket should not matter at all.

Hmm Alright. Thanks! And I think I can get that pan off w/o lifting the engine. ... Figured it has brand new oil in it and I have to take the pan off... Go fig huh?

Yeah, what Snwy said, gotta undue the mounts and hoist it up...You can always try losening the oil pan, dont drop the bolts, just loosen it up, 50/50 shot if its gonna leak or not. Gouge the gasket and you will end up replacing it anyways. If you go to that much trouble I would replace it anyways, along with the motor mounts, and on and on and on...I never replace my VC gasket after any kind of adjustment etc. You should be able to get it off aand on a couple of times before you have to replace it.

If the VC fuct, its fuct. I usally buy OEM (got a hookup)and you can usally get a couple of valve adjustments out of it before its shot. I think I have a bad HG and I HAVE to do a timing chanin while I have the head off so I'm probally gonna be in the same boat as you Blue.

OEM? You mean Nissan still makes parts for these cars besides the gas cap? lol Thats neat. The HG On these Zs dont look hard at all a shop crane would make it a snap for sure

Well good luck with your HG! I just want my Z engine to run again! 6 miles isnt bad, sitting for 6 years IS bad

dont get me wrong now. Gaskets, spark plugs, and easy stuff are generally there 2-3 days. Anything bigger, it might take a while. I ordered a OEM oil pan a couple of years ago and it took 3 months!

I used to be a grease monkey at a dealership but they let me out of the cage. You can still get quarter panels, OEM weather stripping and all that, Its just going to cost you. I checked on weather stripping once but it ran about $200. per side, and that was with a discount! I'll keep my leakey tops for now.
