Fixing Wiper control rods

Hi folks... I have a '82 280zx and I'm having trouble accessing the driver side wiper control rod. I just bought it and foolish of me i didn't check the wipers to see if they were working... smh

Anyway....

The driver side wiper blade doesn't make it up the windscreen because the part that swivels broke off from the pan (the part which conceals the wiper control rods)

Question: How does one access the control rods? I removed the grille, but can't seem to get at the part where the wiper blade bolt onto the rod... Do I have to remove the dashboard to access it?

Pls help!

Open the grill, take off the wiper motor(from inside there is a 12mm nut, take it off),take off the wiper blades(12 mm nuts holding each one) then from the out side take off the big nuts that located on the base of the wiper blades, push the little rods in and from the inside where the grill covers just wiggle the whole arms assembly one piece out.

from what it looks like, the control arm needs to be welded to the underside of that metal pan....

Am i correct?

No everything will go out from the grill area,You don't have to touch the dashboard, all the work from out side the car!

ok i removed the grill and exposed the control arms... looks like nothing is wrong with them... its the bracket which hold the wiper swivel in place is broken...

Would have to cut the pan and weld that bracket back in place... That's a bomber

I have issues with the stupid wipers not going all the way up unless it's full speed. They stop at like 3 different places. Definitely annoying to say the least.
