Cork or rubber A/T gasket

Hey guys,

Considering having put only about 70k on my '79 in six years (up to 184k now), I figure it's about time I change the filter and fluid out on it. A/T sucks, I know, have a manual that's been waiting to go in for a few years, just don't feel like braving it yet, or dealing with the lack of the clutch pedal mount on the cage under dash.

I'm just curious to know what anyone else uses in regards to the pan gasket. Cork, rubber? Should be cork on there right now. And if rubber, not sure if little more torque needed for a good seal.

Also, any opinions on metal screen filters vs paper/cloth filter. Having a hard time finding screen, maybe somebody can point me in the right direction.

Thanks!

Who told you that? I do have one actually, a spare from my Z that I had to send off to the undying lands, if it wasn't broken, I saved it in the garage.

if you can find a junker you can remove the whole cage clutch and brake pedal and all. have to kind of wiggle it and cuss but eventually it just sort of jumps out of there (after you remove the bolts of course). two clevis, 4 holding brake booster, 2 clutch master and three over to the left side I seem to remember. don't forget the hydraulic lines and clutch master slave

The 3n71b tranny pan gasket I bought is this one by ishino and sold by "thepartsbin".

It's not cork or rubber.

I had to pick a car and then search "pan gasket" to get it to come up.

Already have junker, actually still need to cut it up....bought it for $450, was converted to triple webers, sold them with the manifold for $500 off the bat, so got the car for a steal.

Have all the parts for the manual conversion, just not in the mood for it at the moment, heh...

Thanks for the info PooFlinginMonkey and rogerz. I've been a little leery of the rubber type, sounds sub-optimal to the sealing properties of cork.

If that gasket isn't either of the two, what is it??
