my mistake!! I owe an apoligy....to jfairlady

[QUOTE=
When did J say this about hand tight ball joints?[/QUOTE]

Sorry to J and everyone....I have a friend named Jay who helped me seperate the ball joint from the knuckle arm.

I mentioned that Jay said to get them tight, he [fubar] thought I ment J on here
from there it got screwed up when fubar rationalized that it was okay to leave them loose as there is a cotter pin, and talking about the two Jays.

I just asked him about it, but he said he didn't say that????

And we STILL gotta redo the passenger side to get the ball joint tight.

oh well, just use a fsm and double check everything.
sorry jfairlady to bash you.

Yep, you can see it in the upper right, its blue.

Well, the front end is completly done....we have completed the following work on the front end.

new rotors
new metallic brake pads
calipers refinished and painted black
new brake lines
new ball joints
new tie rod ends
new enegry suspension bushings
new sway bar end links
control arms steam cleaned and painted black
new Tokico shocks and springs
remanufactured rack and pinion steering

Fubar only hurt himself twice...[today]..lol...seriously folks, when under a car, its a good idea to wear safety glasses, as Fubar found out.
He came out from under the car, made a bee line to the bathroom to rinse his eyeball out with water after getting something in it.

Everything okay, he proceded back under the car and within 5 minutes, gets another eyefull, this time Dot approved brake fluid!ouch

This time he had to be led out from under the car and escourted to the sink pronto, while he used water to flush his eye out a second time.

Everything turned out okay, however, I have insisted that whenever working under the car he now wears approved safety glasses.

Note to anyone wanting to do this job.bushing replacement..it's not as easy as it looks unless you have the right tools. The fronts weren't too bad, however,
We got the control arm bushings [on the rear] out using a blow torch, sledge hammer, punch, welding gloves. Tried using a Porta Power, didn't work. The hacksaw method on the front is tiresome especially since you have twice as many bushings on the rear, so the easiest way is to burn the rubber out then use a suitable sized punch and then a sledge hammer! to get the shells out. Fubar had to use the Dremel tool to smooth out the bore, as the punch gouged somewhat.

We are waiting to complete the rear end of the car.

We will open up and inspect the fuel tank
we have removed oem fuel pump
will install MSD fuel pump
new fuel lines
Tokico shocks and springs on rear
install new rotors [again]
and brake pads

This completes the first sequence of "This old car"

Tune in later for upcoming episode.
kenny.

ps, I still havent gotten a straight answer on "hand tighten" ball joints from him yet! lol, kenny.

Fubar retorqued the ball joints and tie rod ends tight! He works good by himself.

I have both the downloaded fsm for the '82 model and the paper fsm for the '83 model. This allows us to print out what we need, and have the hard copy near by too, but sometimes wires get crossed up...stuff happens. So now we check each others work and refer back to the manuel, no matter what.

Thanks for the offer on the bushings, however fubar did a great job of getting them out. Thanks again fubar.

Problem now is rear sway bar end link bushings. I contacted the website, who manufacture the bushings, http://www.energysuspension.com/pages/nis1.html and they list the same part for both front and rear....

fubar knows the problem better than me. He says it will not fit! He thinks the bolts and metal bushings in the center are too short!

Whatcha gonna do? Any sugestions anyone? I hope to get some pictures up soon.

But you know how it is, you get busy doing something and don't remember to take pictures....

kenny

Ok guy's. I am trying to prove my point to Captken about his injector's. He upgraded his to 420CC and will still be runing the stock turbo at only about 8PSI
My point: To much fuel to burn.
Upgraded ECU. Cobra AFM. 420CC injector's. 240SX T/B. 3 Inch downpip back.
No turbo upgrade. No intake manafold upgrade. and only about 2PSI increse from stock. Do you think he will be runing rich? I am not tryign to down Cap. just prove a point.

It all depends on how JWT setup the ECU. When he ordered it did he talk to Jim about what he had done to his car? Or have you not ordered it yet? And other then an intercooler he has all the supporting mods to run atleast 15psi, so why not get an intercooler?

jwt

Well, I talked to Ben at JWT and told him exactly how the car would be set up initially.
That is there is no intercooler, with the stock turbo, with everything listed on their page to use, just minus the upgraded turbo and intercooler.
He said "we are on the same page"

That is to baseline the car and to get it running well. Then there is the learning curve....lol

Ball bearing turbo size?
intercooler make and size?

I want plug and play.
I don't have the time to tune or desire to tune/tune/tune/dyno/dyno/turn... a stand alone fuel/ingnition management system. Thats just me, I know others love to do this. Maybe later, I'll change my mind...till then,

I will gladly take the nice drive to the mountains, altitude and curves, cross country sea to shining sea road trip in my [dependable] fast car that will handle like a nailed down snake.....over spending hours in repetative tuning any day.

I wanna be a zdriver....not a z tuner you know.... Enjoy the ride...hmm....now where have I heard that before?

The goodie box, least thats what fubar calls it.

engine upgrades to be installed. [With fubars help of course!]

we are making progress on everything else that you should upgrade/refurbish before making the engine modifications.
Making sure that the suspension/brakes/steering have been refurbished/upgraded.

We are in the process of tying up loose ends on the brakes now. But the system has been flushed, and bled. Waiting on one brake hose for the rear. Used the old one to flush out the ATF fluid that the previous owner installed...

the picture is of box of parts [goodie box] that include the jwt upgrade, pallnet stuff, and jeffp's [from the other fourums] stuff.

fub's porting and polish job on 240sx upgrade.

Fubar ported the intake for the 60mm throttlebody. He did a good job. smooth transition on the lip, which he also polished.

i once go 16 year old rusted metal flake embedded into my eye wearing safety glasses when drilling out studs underneath me Z32. umm.. needless to say my eye was irritated for 2 days i never saw anything, till one day at work. it was right on the edge of my pupil so it was almost invisible, a visit to the ER with failed cotten swap attempts lead me to an eye specialist who had to literally dig it out of my eye with a syringe. so note to EVERYONE, when ***** flying wear safety GOGGLES... the glasses dont do ****.
