Everything is there in a box ready to install. Ask Captken. or just let him reply to this for the complete list of JWT stuff he orderd.

bought her to gut her [long]

lol. What started out as a weekend or two project turns into a resto project!
It is fun working with the fubster. He knows lots of stuff I don't know, especially about the engine.
I gotta few tricks up my sleeve he doesn't know about, and its working out.

First off the car is sound. Completly stock. It seems like everything she came with from the factory is still there.

Previous owner kept maintence log.

I bent the oil pan when the floor jack slipped off crossmember. Ouch! Fubar and I took the pan off and bent it back out as it was contacting the crank.
With the pan off, time to check out the bottom end. Took a hammer and tapped on rod end caps. Sound.
Shined a light up inside, checking things out, looks new up in there.
Oil pan had traces of carbon, probably from the turbo oil line, below where it dumps into pan. No metal in pan.

While we were doing that job, noticed seals leaking on rack and pinion unit. So it was decided to replace that while the engine is on jack stands, raised up.
Excellent time to do the brakes! Me and Fubar jumped into Powerstoke to get pads and rotors.
1 hr. later back. Installed new rotors and pads from Autozone. Stock rotors for now. All new and true and not needing refinishing. Cost about $200.00.

Well, looking at how the suspension is just hanging, and I was intending to adress the bushings later, I said what the heck, lets rebuild the suspension.
Makes scence, replacing the rack and pinion, brakes, hell yes!

It was about that time I realized that why not budget in new shocks 100k they are gonna need it sooner than later?

Found Tokico Hp Advanced on ebay, whole kit shipped for $325.00.

I had to get new springs too! I hope they are not too harsh and do not lower the car more than the 1" that Tokico says they will.

If so, springs will come off and I'll use the factory ones.

What else? Brake lines!

About this time I realize that the brakes have to come back off to do this other work.

Back up, take the brakes back off and start over. I hope I don't start pissing more dollar bills at this point and buy ceramic pads and the cross drilled rotors....

I don't like having to do a job twice!! I am over budget on this beast.

So Fubar and I talked and decided on a plan.

Suspension/steering/brakes first. Had to really do my home work on the Enegry Suspension poly bushings.
No one and I mean no one had all the parts in stock! I ordered from Advance on line, they processed the order, robot spit out email that some of the parts had been back ordered, earliest time to get middle Janurary. So I cancelled. Same song from AutoZone.

Note: you can buy a complete kit from AutoZone or Advance. The Advance price is $1.00 cheaper on each kit.

So, time to read archives....Suspension Restoration Parts in Modesto Ca.

Called them Thursday, they had the complete kit plus boots for the ball joints that the others don't carry.

The complete kit for a 280zx cost $118.00. Cheaper by far than the other guys. Talk to Bruce, real nice guy and very helpful, they set you up.

Being impatient, I had to have them overnighted, living next to the FedEx hub has its advantage, was on my door step next am! Cost extra $50.00 for fast shipping. So I ended up spending more money than I had intended too. Total cost for bushings and overnight delivery, $168.83, ouch!

Probably still less than what youd pay from Black Dragon, or MSA??

Struts and springs arrive 2 Jan '07. Timing is right. We have all the parts to do everything, cept brake lines...oh well.

Thanks Fubar I mean {Jeff}

Engine modifications post later, lets not get ahead of ourself too many more times!

It is an '83 turbo. It is black and gold. Has factory gold tint in the windows, gold emblems, gold pin stipes, and gold in the swastika wheels. Mileage, 102k.

Fubar and I have installed new rotors and pads. We are working on Energy Suspension Poly bushings.

The car will recieve a remanufactured rack and pinion, the Energy Suspension full bushing package, Tokico shocks and springs. I ordered new ball joints and tie rod ends today, should be in tomorrow, New Year Day!

Fubar left his tools and creeper, so I hope he'l be back to help! Work is progressing.

Suspension disassembled, taken to car wash to clean. Being painted. I wondered why repaint? It looks factory with the grime blasted off. Oh well.

Control arm bushings installed. Waiting on new ball joints and tie rod ends.

After cleaning the above items and more, we proceded to base. At that point we became hungry. Hot dogs and chilly was an option however, as we are in Memphis, what better way to satisy hunger than to feast on Memphis Bbq?

So, I fired up the grill and we cooked some awesome pork ribs.

Fubar bought along his girlfriend who helped with handing us wrenches [while we were under the car] and fitting sockets on ratchets....he is so lucky!

She cooked the entries, carrots and rice, while I grilled the Bbq. Not much work on the car followed as we were too full! Thanks again Ashley.

That is were we stand today, with the project.

As far as the Jim Wolf package is concerned, its in a box awaiting installation.

Pictures? Ya want some? Ya gonna have to wait.

kenny

foward progress for the newbies.

Meaning us the buiders.....
Hello, kenny here.

We have made progress on the project. I could not have accomplished so much in so little time without the help of my padner, Fubar.

We are learning as we go. We have rebuild the braking system. We are in the process of rebuilding the steering and suspension systems.

The poly bushings go in easy. Exception being the control arm bushings. However, thanks to posts here and on the other sites, Fubar was able to use a hacksaw and PB-Blaster, using it as cutting fluid, able to remove the shells.

The steering will be as new with upgrades.

Remanufactured rack and pinion.
New poly bushings.

The suspension will be as new with upgrades.

We removed the stock front struts....and had many laughs as the oil farted! out, under compression and intake stroke....removing the oil....and made a mess of the sod I recently installed..Was Fubar able to waste it?...lol....I am told that the oil is used as a means to dissapate heat? Possibly the originals were hydraulic?

The Tokico shocks [and springs] are probably carterage inserts...I will not know until UPS delivers them tomorrow. Screw up on adress, they have been within 5 miles of my house since last Friday....note...maybe they are intimadated by FedEx.....do not use UPS! here in Memphis.

I got the ball joints installed in the control arms today.

Coming along nicely! If your wondering how the Tocicko will lower your car, look in my sig. My personal opinion is there not near low enough so I think you will like them.

Oh and about not using UPS, I agree!! The UPS man recently ran my dog over, needles to say I wont be using them!

Hello, kenny here, the Tokico shocks and springs came in today!
Pallnet's fuel rail came in today!
I am anxious to put them on and get the project moving again.

note to self....don't leave fubar alone!....I left him today, assembling my new wheel barrow, [big sucker] to go and get some mulch, 1 1/2 hour later, I come back, the thing is still unassembled!!!!

I was trying to save the $10.00 assembly fee by buying the kit....and getting him put it together.lol
lol.

You are currently MIA? AWOL? Pwhipped? Please choose one of the above....lol. You did an excellent job of installing mulch at Chuck E Cheese, you work bettter than anyone else in the crew.... Assembling the creeper and on the job of changing the oil [4-gallons of Shell Rotella]on the 7.3 litre PowerStoke, were aced. No oil spots in the driveway!

Call me when you sober up....lol.....my friend.
I did, however, check the local county jails....you are not a resident! That is good to hear.

I think he finally got "lucky" lol.. pwhipped young guy! Been there done that....

However, he arrived and with the help of one of my guys, Lee, installed the Tokico strut carts, Tokico springs, Enegry Suspension bushings.

All was good....until Fubar remembered what someone on here told him to do....install ball joints hand tight, using the cotter pin will insure safety, or something to that effect, Jayfairlady somebody told him, I think that advise sux as my life depends on a clean and accurate install...so to Jayfairlady, do your home work and don't advise people if you don't know your *** from a hole in the ground.....why misleed someone?

Buy a factory service manual for your car. Chit chat here is good and I like the social interactions, as I met a good guy here. Just don't take joe blows advise without backing it up, using the factory manual.
The factory service manuel specifies that these must be torqued down....I have a bum shoulder [injury] so today I supervised.
I got sidetracked, getting aftermarket boots for the front shocks, as Tokico doesn't provide them in the kit, ones that will install with the Energy Suspension poly bushings.

So now we will have to redo the right side to torque the ball joint. Thank you mr. jayfairlady.....
A consideration as the car will be capable [after jwt upgrade] super car numbers.
