Blocked Oil Passege
How do you clear a block oil passege? On my 81, you can open the oil cap while idle and the oil will almost shoot out. on my 83. There's no stream, next to no oil at all during idle. My oil gauge works as a Tach. Idle=0, Pressure does not rise till almost 3.5K.

well, the car ain't ran in 4 year's. I just threw some 10W30 with STP treatment and a new fram filter about 7 months ago. I planed to switch to royal purple once i got the car running. oil change should come this weekend. I just used the cheap pensoil on there to clean it out with

Make sure its not the oil pressure sensor, my 84 was doin' that crap and it was the sensor on the block, if your decent about oil changes you shouldnt have blockage, make sure theres no sludge when you look through the oil cap. If its sludged I would check the pick up in the pan usally they get clogged and choke everything off.

Drain the oil use ATF to refill. Run it for 15-20 minutes so it gets nice and warn and breaks up all the sludge, then drain the ATF and refill with oil and it should be good to go. Or you can do it all over again.

ATF for the oil? Huh i got ATF in power stering. The sludge was cleaned out from the valves about 9 months ago. At first i thought it was just the gauge, but if you look under the cap. it's not pumpin the amount it's supposed to.

ATF contains a lot of detergents that will clean the engine out and won't damage anything so long as you don't try to put a load on it or leave it in there too long. 15-20 minutes is what I usually run it if I buy a used car. I do it to all of them just to make sure they're nice and clean.

If you do the ATF flush just be prepared to pull the oil pan afterwards. If you notice a lot of sludge coming out when you drain the ATF then you may need to pull the pan to ensure there's nothing left in there to block the pickup screen or another oil passage after you put oil back in it. It's not always neccessary to pull the pan after flushing but in some cases it's better to be safe than sorry.

A high school friend who is a mechanic told me to run a half quart of ATF with every oil change. Once i put a quart of ATF in my daughters car and realized what i had done. I was out of town and had no tools to do an oil change, so i called my friend. He laughed and said i use 4 1/2 quarts oil and a half quart of ATF. The car would be fine. So I use a half quart every other oil change. May not help, but it cant hurt.
If the oil seems dirty, change your filter after 1000 miles or so until it cleans up
