The best $3.29 I ever spent

Ok I bought my 83 ZXT 3 weeks ago form the original 62 year old owner with 144k on it. It ran OK Turbo spooled up but had no low end was getting detonation at high RPM & when cold would pop through the intake. I figured tune it up & it would be fine. So new Plugs, cap Rotor go in & acts the same OK must be my timing so I dig out the iod timing light that I have not used in 15 years &(note the timing marks on the ZX are f-ing impossible to see) & timing is spot on so I try moving up & down a few degrees & I can get the detonation to stop but it runs worse. HMMMM now I am stumped.

So I bartend on Friday nights & one of my regulars is a gas station mechanic. I tell him my symptoms and he sugests I de-carbon the engine....
Whatttttt???? never heard of this.. SO he goes out to his truck & brings me in the IV looking thing explains to find a Vacuum line like the brake boster Pour in some B-12 turn on the valve & raise the idle let it run through then before it runs out open the valve all the way & stall the car Let it sit for 15 min then start it up again (warning Smoke).
Anyway I figure this will never work But I did it & just took the car out. Holy crap no detonation no popping through the intake low end is smoother everything is fixed.
Anyway I am shocked this worked I just ran out & got another bottle to do my truck hell it has 150k on it why not.

I am sure many will chime in but the guy told me to use seafoam or B-12
the B-12 was three bucks vs nine for the seafoam so I bought the B-12 because to be honest I did not think it would work.

Seafoam may be better for all I know but the B-12 worked so I am happy

Drove my 11 yr old daughter to school today & she even noticed the car ran better

Now that she runs well time for more boost.........

Seafoam is an amazing product. I've used it in all my cars. pour a can into your gas next time you fill up and it cleans while you drive. shortens the life on your plugs by about 1000 km though - carbon deposits being cleaned out tend to adhere to the plugs.

B12 is suppose to be a fantastic solvent for back flushing clogged injectors, etc. I can't find it anywhere around here.

Seafoam should do the same thing. Sounds like your car was quite carboned up.

Putting it in your gas tank - I personally don't think it will do much if anything. You take a solvent then dilute it 200:1 I don't think it will have much effect on cleaning the injectors. Most of the injector cleaning places say its a complete waste of time and I tend to agree.

Old school my friend stuff has been out for years. Guy must of been soft on the car to stuff it up with carbon. I tried it on my 81 and got no smoke at all. An other trick my great uncle "Used car lot / garage towing owner" Is to drain the oil and fill the engine with a gallon of kerosene run it for 15 mins at idle and give it a few oil changes later. De-sludges the engine cleans the rings and softens all the seals. I had a terriable woods beater/Durby car "94 Plymouth acclaim" The 3.3 Blew oil and Ran Just terriable. I did the sea foam Blew smoke for an hour. Ran a little better did my uncles trick and almost wanted to put plates back on it
