Bad kitty!!
Well got the car up in the air today and started stripping out the Exhaust, fuel and brake systems to work on finishing the chassis and under coat and when I went to remove the down pipe and cat the cat flange fell apart. Now since its an 81 Pa just requires a visual emissions check.....
Now my brother in-law got his own station so it really don't matter at all if its there or not. He doesn't even pull tires at the garage. I recall some early 80's Toyota supra's and even corvettes putting up big power gains 40+ hp by running an illegal straight pipe and losing the smog items. And I also heard some cars in the day needing them or you burn the valves and head out from not having back pressure. So can my datsun lose its naughty kitty or not?

^^^ Most states / counties with Smog checks, have ratings by year. In Utah, 76-80 had something like 400 or 500 ppm HC. All cars 81-96 are 220ppm HC.
Technically you could get a good running motor to pass under the 400ppm rating w/ no cat. You'll never break 250ppm without one though.

Thanks y'all, Where I am located though would make the Dukes of hazzard look like they were Starsky n Hutch.
I Drove the 350.00 82 slick back from my other post home late last night. It has a new Nissan cat but If it will make me decent power and wont burn my valves out I rather run open pipes.
The exhaust like I said in an old post got a hole from the half shaft ripping out. So were going to bend a pipe 90' then have a glass-pack across the back bumper do another 90 out the pass side. Or will it be better to notch out the rear and run it straight out the driver? Think them 90 bends are robbing some flow. And B.T.W she already reeks of fumes gas and 30 year old moldy heater box LOL so that's not an issue for us.

Oh and Nismo, So you guys up there still get the Probe?? Here 83 and before they just see if you have the cat and smog pump hooked up. They made a big stink about having the obsolete emission test equipment or keeping the equipment for a hand full of cars to inspect a year. My brother in law said that the cut off is for every state but California. LOL like to get one over on him.

Ha! got ammo.... Ok so this will not burn the valves out then?? and is the any benefits to running the pipe directly out the drivers side instead of that weird s bend they have to exit the passenger side?

No smog here! I deleted the cat entirely and I got rid of that stupid passenger side end pipe and welded a downward end pipe on the end of the muffler. Sounds good not loud at all and it helped with power a lot
