83 Turbo replacement source?

Probably covered before but where do I find a stock replacement turbo? Or should I rebuild? The original is ok but not 100%. Sitting on 88K original miles. My first turbo model after two 82 N/As. So I want to get it right. Aware of MSA but are they the best source or any other supplier recommended?

Nissan... MSA... BDA... expect to pay $1k for a new stock one, $300 to $500 to rebuild it. You can buy a cheap ebay one that will last you about 10k miles for $300. What's wrong w/ yours?

Thanks for the reply. My turbo seems fine to me. Without a comparison against another stock turbo though I have no reference point. What is prompting this is the previous owner, who has had eight ZXTs suggested replacing or rebuilding. His opinion was "it is ok but not putting you in the back like it should". So I think I'll give him a call to clarify just what exactly he means.

Checked all the posts on Boost Guage reading. What should the boost guage read while idling or just mormal driving? Mine reads near -7 and climbs towards 0 on acceleration. Hitting the trottle hard and it moves to toward the red section.

That's the whole idea of a turbocharger... vacuum at idle or no throttle, boost builds as the throttle opens & resistance on the drivetrain increases...

If everything runs fine then your turbo is probably fine. My turbo runs fine and it has 99k miles on it. If anything there's probably a slight vacuum leak or something that's causing a bit of boost leak and not putting you in the back as it should. Generally alot of people seem to rebuild things like the turbo and neglect the rest of the engine. I've noticed this tends to be with people who don't seem to know too much about the engine under the hood.
