Looking at the FSM and it seems there is no neutral saftey switch on the NA manual trans. Really?

I'm looking at page MT-3 in my 1983 280zx FSM & it has a pic of the FS5W71B 5speed tranny w/ four switches (front to back of car):

(main transmission section)
-Reverse lamp switch
-Top gear switch

(rear extension of transmission)
-O.D. gear switch
-Neutral switch

Are you asking because it's there or not there on your tranny?

put it in gear, try to start it, if the car moves then you have your answer.

mine doesent have, or doesent have a working switch. not really a huge deal though

That's the reason for looking into the switch. I have a remote starter sitting around and I want to be sure that I can NOT start the car if it's in gear.

Nismo, I'll have to double check, I was checking the electrical drawings and couldn't find it on there.

The m/t Zs up to and including 83 did not have a clutch switch for the starter.

our wonderful govt didn't decide until 86 that people were too dumb to know they were or weren't in neutral.

neither of my 81's have had it. Just push the clutch before you start it. If you're worried about using a remote starter switch just be sure to double check that it's in neutral before you start working on it.
