Hey guys...my 83zx turbo would sometimes die when I put it into neutral. For example...I'm driving at speed and I have to stop...I don't down gear so I press the clutch and put it into neutral...the tach drops and the needle would drop real close to 0 and bounce back up but sometimes the engine would die out all together...then I would have to re-start it. I don't have a problem re-starting it but what would make the engine idle that low to kill the engine? There are no other problems witht he performance but it wierds me out when the car stalls when I drop it into neutral. Any ideas? Thanks.

well im not to familiar with fuel injected cars but have you tried playing with the idle screw to rev up higher or check for any vaccum leaks..thats all i can think of so far...good luck

My turbo is not equiped with the idle screw and I'm sure I don't have a vaccum leak as that is the first thing I looked for..any other ideas?

 

i might check out the fuel pressure regulator, fuel damper and the fuel pump. also take a look at the throttle position switch. might be one of those.........good luck dude!

My TPS sensor is brand new but I'll certainly take a look at the other stuff as my fuel pump has been making more noise than normal. Thanks.

 

having tons of years with injected motors but none with z's. a very common but not known problem is that the throttle body valve only has about .001 to .0015 clearence for the idle circuit base air setting. this is generally helped out by an idle compensating vavle that controls fast idle and decell control. step 1. clean out the bore of your trottle body till its hospital clean. {IF} AND IT SHOULD HAVE !!. find the idle contol valve which is located on the intake manifold after the throttle body. carefully remove and clean the valve and its bore that it sits in. this should get your idle control back, unless your mechanical base setting came loose, in which case you can reset after all the cleaning.
