83 280zx fuel filter(S)?

My 83 280zx sat for a long time. I got her running and with lots of help from the great folks in third forum, running well. It started hesitating REALLY bad a couple of months ago, now it will not start at all. Well, it will start for about a second and then it cuts off. I read where this could be the fuel filter, so even though I replaced it a couple of years ago, I replaced it again. It did drain some brown looking crap out of the bottom of it, but still won't stay started. I replaced the igniter a year or so ago, and put new plugs and wires on it. Is there a second fuel filter somewhere? If so, where is it? Could it be one of the fuel pump relays? I have no mechanical ability whatsoever, but I love this car and want to drive it again...

you need to put a pressure gage on the fuel ring to find out what is wrong. if it starts then pretty much you know it is a fuel delivery problem. a gage will give you information that you need.

Yes there is a fine mesh filter attached to the pick up line in the fuel gauge assembly that sits in the tank. This can get caked up or the line gunked up or rusted up also. Assembly is accessible from the trunk area under the carpet. The FSM will give instructions on its removal. You can spray out the removed assembly with Carb cleaner. Adding an inline fuel pressure gauge would help to determine if you need to go that route.
