Fuel pre filter

Fuel pre filter
So I was thinking I would do the fram G3 prefilter between the tank and fuel pump, like this guy at atlanticz did:
Seemed to make sense as dropping and dealing with any tank sludge is not in scope within my time demands. Add a transparent filter and then I can at least see the gunk (if any :-)) coming from the tank.
So I dig into it, and I cannot make my z look like the photo... #1 is that the fuel pump should be in the way and it's not.
Secondly, I discovered that the PO had installed a different fuel pump that doesn't even fit the bracket, is just kind of hanging back there loose in the original bracket, top bolt missing and all:
First, the guy at atlanticz must have moved his fuel pump and dampener elsewhere, likely under the hood.
Second, would anyone buy a stock fuel pump and replace whatever the PO did here? The car seems to run rich, Ive been through all the EFI components and it's running much better than it ever has. I suspect there may be sediment in the return lines and wanted to get an idea what was coming out of the tank, hence the g3.
PS: PO in my case also stands for 'painted orange.' The guy painted everything he could orange... like the window trim, the fan... the coolant reservoir, the AFM... painted orange.

I can tell you that my 76 has the same pump bracket and a rubber spacer is used to cushion the pump yours missing the screw and rubber but that's a easy fix the one you copied the pre filter idea from is prolly a later year z the location is in a different spot and another FYI is that the later gas tanks are different shaped maybe that is why the fuel pump is in the different location... And if yours is like my old tank rusty as that thing just buy a fuel cell lol hope this info helps ya if I can help further just message me
