82 ZX heater core

I am having some issues with my heat. If you are at highway speed it seems to do fairly well, but when you just let it idle the air never gets warm. It blows plenty of air, it just doesn't get warm.

I tried flushing the core by disconnecting the hoses and running water thru it. But when I stick the water nozzle up to one side the other side only has a trickle. It doesn't matter which side I stick it to, I only get a trickle. My thoughts are that this should be completely wide open and what ever goes in comes out just the same.

I have done this on another car (cadillac) and it ran free in both directions. Shouldn't this one do that as well. If so, how do I unclog the core.

Otherwise what causes the core not to run water straight thru, and what could be my problem with now heat.

The car is/was completely full with antifreeze. I have just exchanged the thermostat because it was stuck open. The car does get up to operating temp based on the guage.

could be the valve that lets fluid flow through is stuck closed. could be a broken vacuum hose issue. If you pull the dash (really not that hard) you can easily get at the heater innards.

Where is this valve? That sounds like that might be my problem.

So I checked out the other thread and it was priceless in terms of pics. But now I need to know if I need to pull the dash to get to this valve?

You can pull the kick panel and the radio console and get to it w/o much work, still a little bit of a pain but you don't have to pull the entire dash.

OK. So I just drove the car down the interstate and it got plenty hot inside. However, I had to keep in on DEF most of the time due to the windows fogging up. WTH?!?!?! It is like driving around inside a dishwasher. And once you switch it off of DEF when you switch it back it will only maintain what is clear, it won't clear it all the way up. I've about had my fill of the damn car. HELP!!!!!! What is wrong with this thing.

that sounds normal.. the z has really bad circulation.. just crack the window just a lil bit to circulate the air inside and the windows should clear up...

well i can say its like that with my car.. specially when its raining or really cold outside.. you can check to see if all your ducts are connected and sealed properly.. if not you might not be getting enough air coming out of them to clear your windshield..

I did notice that all of my foam seals had basically disintegrated. Maybe I need to try adding some new foam to all of my duct work.

Just wondering, does your compressor work? Someone told me that the compressor helped keep the moisture out of the car and that it would help keep the windows from fogging up.

Mine works and a it does help but you have to have the A/C on (Lever on the A/C settings but not the hot/cold on cold basically)

Mine is the ACC so I assume the comp cycles even when the temp is turned up to the warm settings when it is on Auto.

Oh I have no clue on that. That might be the entire source of your issues.
