I need some guidance I swapped my 79 l28 with an 83 l28 from my parts car Its in and hooked back up but the starter won't engage at all and some of the resistors make noise where did I go wrong I used the stock starter and alternator but I'm unsure if the alternation is hooked up right or if that's my real issue..

 

One thing I do know, is you have different components on the '83 opposed to the '79. The '83 had an oxygen sensor, cylinder head temp sensor, and a digital dash. The '79 is more basic without some of those things. And the computer and such are different also. Get those free manuals that have been posted on this site. They should help you out. I don't know the links. Somebody will chime in hopefully. And good luck.

Thanks for the reply i had a little time today to look into the alternator wiring it looks to be correct so i popped in a fresh battery and tried to start the car and the positive terminal on the battery shot a spark... im not sure why maybe the starter is hooked up wrong? i also know the distributor needs to be swapped out with the 83s but i at least want it to turn over before i start triyng to troubleshoot anything else. right now i have both the negative and positive hooked up to the starter but im beginning to think its not how it supposed to be.
