1982 zxt
As my hunt continues I have found another Z car. This one is a 1982 ZXT with digital dash, 5 spd, and 160XXX miles. It is the current owners daily driver, he is asking 4250 (which is clearly too high). It looks like its in a bit better shape than the last one I was looking at, though im split on whether or not a turbo is better...the extra HP is nice and it will be much easier to get it to the 200-225 hp range that im looking for though I dont know how much of a hit the reliability factor is taking. According to owner it has "t-tops, leather interior, digital dash, cd player, a/c, power windows, mirrors, and door locks, cruise control, new wiper motor-starter-ignition switch". I am going to look at it tomorrow. Wondering what you guys would offer for this car (though i know that most of you wont think twice about a car over 900 bucks). Im thinking 3K, 3500 maximum depending on the extent of the rust damage. That being said, in one of the pictures i noticed something weird that may be a deal breaker, it looks to me like it had some sort of body damage. Im not sure what the weld is, or if its something normal to these cars...I am pretty sure its not. The interior is really nice. Anyway, here are the pictures. I outlined the areas of concern in the Passenger side shot I was talking about. Thanks guys!
A better shot of the weld/rust on the pass. side door frame.

As for the speedometer, no it does not read past 85. If you want to have it read faster. Either get a 130 speedometer out of a '79, or a Kilometer one, and have it calibrated to MPH. Otherwise the Z looks really clean. I don't know what to say about the welds.

Ya know, I was thinking that. The owner has it advertised as an 82, not really sure. The interior looks to be in really good shape though. Not too fond of the super 80's two tone paint scheme. I found a 79 parts car at a junkyard to harvest some taillights from, I could see about tagging the speedo too. its possible to get all the brake light, warning lights and so forth to sync up as well right?

look at the door tag to be sure of the year. changing to the earlier style lights will work fine. the digi dash may have come on the turbos. the seam above the where the wires go from door to car is factory but not that ugly so something happened. also since the wire sheath is painted silver I'm guessing that has been painted after a repair. take it to a frame shop and have them check it for warpage. probably a $100. take a magnet along and check for bondo on the body. is the upper one welding or just a bunch of rust? what does the engine compartment look like? Seems pretty clean from the pics. Price hey it is what you are willing to pay and the PO will take. If you really want a Z and you have the money go for it. I like the silver/blue myself. girlfriend had one and I liked them both but I think that car would be in better shape than she would at this time of her life. be sure all the electrical stuff works tracking down electric gremlins no fun.
