Good stuff man, looks like you've pretty much gotten most of the parts you need to do your turbo conversion. Keep up the work, it's been cool watching the progression on both your projects so far.

Thanks man, yeah I am getting there. I am hopefully getting some other parts from Spyder Z 15. So hopefully this year, I will be starting my turbo conversion.

Thanks man, but I am not a member of that site. This is the only Z site I am a member of. And I am sure it is long gone by now. Thanks anyway. And I am not a noob.

Well look at what I scored last night on ebay. Yeah I know it needs some work. But for the price I got it for, it was worth it. Considering these things go for some pretty good money. Especially if you have to have one made. Anyway check it out, and comment if you like.

Man... piecing a turbo motor together gets pricey & drawn out. I got my entire donor turbo car for $300... and bought another one (for my future S30 swap) for $400.

Yeah well around here. Turbos are not cheap. Believe me, this is Arizona. Where cars if they rust down here. Rust slowly, so the value is higher here. I wish I could get a turbo car that cheap. Heck I couldn't get an n/a for that cheap. I have looked around. But all in all, it will be a learning experience for me. That is the big plus to it.

around here, there are no other Z's. lol. only LOTS of 350's and some Z32's. i woulda loved to get a turbo motor initially otherwise. i was able to cource a turbo motor and the guy woulda shipped it with harness and ecu for 550 to my house. but then i got the free car and pieced the turbo system for free by selling parts and such. if i had to spend my own money on it, i woulda bought the turbo motor. woulda been well worth it. and how arent you a member of that site!!!!! thats n00b. you need to learn to outsource to get parts. its better business. plus, its not that old of a listing and doesnt say its gone. doesnt hurt to ask. whats the worste that could happen?

No not yet, maybe I will think about joining them also. I don't have too many more parts to go. Because the internals and, externals of the engine, will pretty much be new. Example, Crank bearings, rings, timing chain set, oil pump, turbo, water pump, higher voltage alternator, etc.. You get the idea anyway. Also my cylinder head will be completely redone. And I will learn to do it myself. I have confidence I can do it. I have done so much to these cars already, so why not? Also the exception is the rods, and pistons. Which I will be getting from Spyder Z 18. I am getting a few parts from him also.

Will keep updating this thread quite often. Keep checking back to it. And thanks for the comments.

Around here where Datsuns are plentiful and cheap, evening a $300 turbo Z is a killer deal. I looked for a couple years to find my $500 turbo car. It came as a turbo and non-turbo 280ZX for $500 though. Package deal only so I bet a lot of people wanted to buy just the turbo car and were turned away.

I picked up both.

Okay....I have not 1 but 2 turbo harnesses coming to my door. Here in a few days. Guess what I got both of them for. $75 bucks, no joke. They both are for the engine bay. Now all I need is a dash harness. And I will be set for the wiring part.

I looked over the cylinder head, the other night. And it looks pretty straight and clean. The cam has a nick on one of the lobes. But no biggie, I will probably put a better cam in it. At the end of the head rebuild. With whatever components, will work with it better. And the valve cover has been sandblasted. So hopefully I can get it to shine up like chrome. Or I might have it powder coated blue. Not sure on that yet. That is is for now. Will update, when I have more.

Received my wiring harnesses yesterday. Then today I got my downpipe. Also I received the parts. I got from Spyder Z 15. It is slowly coming together. Just hope I can get another job here soon. So I can continue to buid up my parts. More to come later.

My last recent job, I worked at a factory. That made the initiatiors for the airbags. For my life work history...Here is a list.

All types of construction
dishwashing, bussing
janitorial, cleanup
manufacturing, production, assembly
some warehouse, also shipping
moving furniture and such.
customer service, technical help
parts runner, for huge equipment

That should give you an idea. But this should more be in the work thread.

I don't think you'll need a dash harness. My 1982 non-turbo kept the full dash and body wiring harness. I just used the fuel injection turbo harness. I think I had to splice in ONE wire from the turbo coil to an open connector on the turbo ECU. Nothing really spliced into the factory (NA) dash harness.

Oh ok, that would be cool. Yeah like I said....I have the 1983 turbo analog injection harness. (engine bay, ECU) I actually have 2, so I can make a good one out of both. But that is good to hear. If you can...Could you send me a write up of what all it entails. With hooking the Turbo gauges to the N/A dash harness? If so, that would be cool bro'. And thanks.

And I am running a 1984 300zx ECU with my setup.

oh... Wild, I forgot one detail. I just kept the NA gauges. I like the voltmeter. I didn't want an oil temp gauge. I just installed an aftermarket boost gauge. so...

280zx section I have a million page thread on my turbo buildup.
