guys get off his case about needing MOAR POWAR to drift (for instance, AE86 Corollas, like 85whp MAX yet there's people sliding them all over the place, and very well at that.)
welling the diff is the poor mans way to keep the rear end locked... as far as everything else, im still learning about datsuns, i used to drift a miata so im using my info off what i did to the miata and applying it to my 280.

Why a 280zx for drift? Yeah it may look cool but its gonna cost you waaaaay more than most options out there.
zx for street fun and auto-x is ok.
If your gonna build a drift beater there are a MILLION 240sx's out there with a million low cost parts.
Why not save some money and beat the **** out of one of those than a Z?

it costs what, $50 to weld a diff? that's all you really need to slide...

anything else is just to help it slide better.

i just got an 81 280zx that i want to make a drifter. i read through this whole thread and really didnt get a whole lot to run on. what is a good parts list that would get me started? also would a R180 welded diff fit in my car? my buddy has one hes selling but i dont wanna buy it if it isnt compatible
