words of wisdom for all you newbies!

Hello everyone,
So i swap perfectly working harnesses from running turbo. Well i have everything in place and ready to hit the ignition, right. I hit the ignition and the pump does not run. What do we do, we check everything but the obvious, then we read all the threads. Have you been there? Have you read any threads and it was actually really the relays, if so not very often. Well i was swapping ecms relays, checking wires and running the pump directly. When i was about to cry and at the ends of my wits. To my surprise i wiggled the wire fusible links by the battery while the ignition was on and wholla the pump ran. What a wonderful feeling.Check the beginning source of current first.

Fuel pump/ ground

Hello fella's,
My fuel pump is not running when i turn on ignition. With the ignition on when i pull the ground cable from the battery off and on real fast making everything click eventually the pump runs but the stops. Does this sound familiar to any one? could it be a bad ground some where?

I feel i'm close , wiggling the harness by the pump relay gets the system clicking as does interrupting the current. when i get it clicking or jumping the pump comes on and so does the talking lady. thats why i suspect a ground.

the pump may only run to build pressure to prime then shut off until it starts. if anything just re wire your own relay in place. plus get rid of the fuseable links with a 4 block of maxi fuses.

fuel pump ground wire

Ive been working on my 280zx turbo an 83. lots of positive progress, so i have had 12 volts going to the fuel pump, there was no ground going to it though. i grounded the wire by splicing in at the connection in the hatch to the body and the pump runs fine . my question is ,is there something else i should consider will the gound problem snow ball to other things. is the ground problem in some device or something else.

Merged threads again.

The stock 280zxt fuel pump wiring uses a harness body ground, I believe near the spare tire well. Check the FSM wiring diagrams.

Side note... when upgrading to the Z31T ecu / maf, you have to ground the fuel pump anyway.

Thanks so much for the advise, it is amazing to me that you all actually reply.
I noticed when the pump ground worked so did the voice warning lady, is there any connection to the two grounds? I will for that ground to body wire in the mean time. I can't wait to start the fun stuff carpet, paint, stereo . see ya

there is a good chance that the main harness rear ground is rusted or corroded and not connecting causing your issues. what you did is exactly what you should have done. you can strip the interior at the rear and look for the ground connection by the spare tire too if you have time and energy. its possible someone forgot to put the bolt back in.
