Wont fire, electrical i think, help plz
I started my 1983 280zx 2+2 fine yesterday with no problems at all. it runs great with little or no problems at all in the engine.
although this morning i went out to start it and nothing happened. sometimes when i turn my car to the "on" position the electronics dont light up right away. my dash is all electronic. when i took my keys out and left my lights on my voice told me they were on so my battery cant be dead.
sometimes when i go to start it before letting it sit in the on position nothing happens. i think that my sensors are old because when i turn it on my oil pressure gauge takes a minute or so to work.
But this morning i went to start it and warm it up. nothing happened. the dash came on and i turned the lights on but the oil pressure did not rise. i think maybe i need new electronics, or maybe my battery doesnt work right or something.
It didnt even turn over or do anything. i dont think my starter is ruined either. i need help as soon as possilbe plz thanks.

Do the lights dim at all when you try to crank her?
Does she turn over or "clicks" or nothing?
I would start at the battery, its possible for it to put out enough juice to power the lights and still not be able to crank.
A battery can have a dead cell and still read good.
Get a battery from another car or a friend that you know is hot,(the battery not the friend
) ,and see if that solves your problem.
If it does then I'd have that battery and alternator checked out.

on ya. The switch part went bad on my ignition too. On the back of the lock housing, there is a round white plastic part that screws on with two small screws. Its about $30 for a new one and is easy to fix. It sends the signal to the starter solinoid when you turn the key.

Don't count on what I have to say though, cuz my car's an electrical nightmare.

they look like this
works
i figured my battery or fuses were the problem being that i think the battery is still stock and maybe the fuses are. but i checked out the problem the other day and decided that i needed a new battery.
So i bought a new one. still doesn't work, i said well maybe its the connection, and i went through and looked at the cables after all they still are stock.
i decided that new ones couldn't hurt with my new battery. after i take the old ones off and put the new ones on. it works like a charm. i think the cables just gave out on me.
But i probably should get a new fuse cause sometimes it has the same problems. thanks for all the input.
