turbo engine upgrade time

Hey Guys i read all the post about the N/A engine and all the hype about the two. This is my first Z and its a turbo and i am getting ready to do the engine. its a 83 turbo ZX. My question is what upgrades would be best. I plan on porting and polishing the head and having it worked. I already have 6 brand new injecters installed. I know i can up the turbo boost alittle, but what about higher compression pistons and was thinking new cam. This thing has hydrolic lifters in, will this make it more difficult to find a cam? What about boosting fuel pressure?

Sounds like you need to read up a little more on turbo engines in general. You can turn up the boost to about 10psi with the stock J-pipe but I would invest in a decent intercooler. Turbo motors do not like high compression so I would concentrate on all the mods necessary to run 12-15psi.

I've seen stock bottom ends hold up to over 16lbs of boost with a good intercooler, higher flow injecters, high flow fuel pump and adjustable FPR. SleeperZ at Hybridz.org dynoed his setup at 313hp and 419 ft-lbs of torque at the wheels. He added the Z31 ecu and maf to his set up and is running SVO injectors with a T3/T4 hybrid turbo...all on stock internals!!!!!! I have a similar setup on my 280Z but haven't upgraded to the Z31 setup yet.

Start with basic insurance first:
#1: accurate boost guage
#2: air/fuel ratio guage...Nordskog makes a great one
#3: high flow intercooler
#4: adjustable FPR
#5: high flow fuel pump
#6: blow off valve
#7: boost controller
#8 & 9 & 10 if budget permits higher flowing injectors and hybrid turbo and high flow exhaust

Do these and you could easily be pushing 300 hp and running low 12s or better.
