transmission noise

My 1983 280zx non turbo 5 speed is making a noise when the clutch is out. But when I push the clutch in, it stops. So I replaced the clutch the throw out bearing and the pilot bearing and it still makes the noise. I can hear it when im driving it also. Any ideas? thx

i would have guessed it was your throw out bearing but you said you changed it.. when you installed it on the yolk did you use a press?

sure you got that clip on the T/O bearing right? if not, i could only venture its a bearing in the tranny itself. you sure its coming from the tranny? the noise?

tranny and gear box be the same thing. lol. unless your referring to just inside the bell housing leaving it open only to the clutch setup. but there's bearings all the way up front there to that support the shafts inside the tranny that could go bad.

understood. Im just thinking that it could be something in the gears that could be worn other than the pilot and the throw out bearing.

Input or countershaft bearings.

Many nissan trannies will run for 10,000 miles or more making that noise........but not all of them.

When you drained the oil, did any ball bearings or the cages fall out?
