one of our members in zextreme has a 78 280 and we need to know about the trans. her trans is going out it is a manual. some one said that a z31 turbo 5 speed might fight. if any one knows if this is ture or false let me know plz.or if any one knows of a used one chep for her let me know.

No, I have heard that the bellhousing is different on the VG30 and L-series engines. But the mistake may be that both the 300ZX turbo and 280ZX turbo have a Borg Warner T5. That is true, but those T5's can have different bell housings made. The same T5 is used on Camaros, but that doesnt' mean it bolts up to a Z. it has a different bolt patter on the front.

However, the 78 280Z can use a 5-speed from a 78-79 Datsun truck or a 280Z or 280ZX (turbo too). Or even a Maxima up to 1984.
