superturbo update

ok for now this is how it stands

apparently tony talked to BJhaines and he had some issues with slippage over certain levels of boost (13?) and had to ad a idler pulley .. i have a set up i can make work around the snout.. but ill first try this, next to that i get half my pressure from a turbo anyway. Dont mind the way it looks as this is my mock up engine, for the tension pulley i used a lathe to hollow out a alternator pulley and to turn down a OEM power steering pulley so it would fit inside, next to that the bracket had to be lowered about 5mm..
All in all im pretty content with my progress. though along the way i will prolly make changes
IT seems to be feasible at least

No euro Turbo engines do have an advance .. however it is the mock up engine.
it looks pretty trashy but ill make em all look nice once the engine will be built properly.

hey frank, what i have noticed is alot of the ford super charger setups run a idler pulley directly after the S/C pulley to stop the belt slipping issue.

Looking at it it looks like the current tensioner has to stay where it is inside the belt to keep the drive belt off the water pump. I think I would get a longer belt, just use the current tensioner as an idler, and run a 2nd tensioner on the other side of the supercharger pulling the belt around more of the pulley, otherwise I think it might slip pretty bad. I wish I had one of those superchargers here to play with lol.

UPDATE ON SLIPPAGE !

works great from the looks, they line out !!
The stationary pulley is a roller for a z31 timing belt. I modified another PS idler pulley and welded them together.

yeah, but a serpentine belt is easier to replace and if you carry a spare they are alot better then carrying four different v-belts.

snw, the serpintine is a anti-slippage belt, and can have a constant tension put to it, allowing everything to work to its full potential. and it eliminates all the belts and extra drag on the crank. so you could get more power out of it! the work frank is doing is amazing, i just really look fwd to the day it runs!

i still think you might have some slip under high boost.

The supercharger is just to initiate boost under low rpm where the turbo isn't as efficient. It will also improve the spool up time on the turbo minimizing lag so Frank can go big on the turbo without having to wait until 4000 rpm to get boost.

I've been tempted to do this as well, but with a centrifugal supercharger. They're more expensive, but easier to mount and plumb... But I've got enough projects on my plate right now and I'd like to finish at least ONE before I die...

^^^ centrefugal S/C's actually lag a little to, thats why everyone loves roots but they also rob a lil more driveline power. so its pick and choose....
