superturbo update

ok for now this is how it stands

http://album.hybridz.org/data/500/me...harger_web.jpg

apparently tony talked to BJhaines and he had some issues with slippage over certain levels of boost (13?) and had to ad a idler pulley .. i have a set up i can make work around the snout.. but ill first try this, next to that i get half my pressure from a turbo anyway. Dont mind the way it looks as this is my mock up engine, for the tension pulley i used a lathe to hollow out a alternator pulley and to turn down a OEM power steering pulley so it would fit inside, next to that the bracket had to be lowered about 5mm..
All in all im pretty content with my progress. though along the way i will prolly make changes
IT seems to be feasible at least

snwbrderphat540 11-10-2007 10:27 AM

nice... havent heard from u in a while frank. gime dem ITB's!!!! haha. and also, is this an NA motor? cause that dizzy has a vacumme advance on it

frank280zx 11-10-2007 10:40 AM

No euro Turbo engines do have an advance .. however it is the mock up engine.
it looks pretty trashy but ill make em all look nice once the engine will be built properly.

Id put that belt under the idler pully for a little more belt wrap.

NismoPick 11-13-2007 09:07 AM

We... need... more... pics!!! :D

duowing 11-13-2007 09:39 AM

We definitely need more.

frank280zx 11-14-2007 02:27 AM

ill shoot some more sat i promise ! :)

hoov100 11-14-2007 02:41 AM

hey frank, what i have noticed is alot of the ford super charger setups run a idler pulley directly after the S/C pulley to stop the belt slipping issue.

Spraguepsycho1 11-14-2007 11:36 AM

Looking at it it looks like the current tensioner has to stay where it is inside the belt to keep the drive belt off the water pump. I think I would get a longer belt, just use the current tensioner as an idler, and run a 2nd tensioner on the other side of the supercharger pulling the belt around more of the pulley, otherwise I think it might slip pretty bad. I wish I had one of those superchargers here to play with lol.

frank280zx 11-15-2007 07:26 AM

i will ad one extray idler but it will be on the feed side of the sc belt to give some more wrap!

frank280zx 11-17-2007 09:14 AM

UPDATE ON SLIPPAGE !

http://album.hybridz.org/data/500/medium/sc_web.jpg

works great from the looks, they line out !!
The stationary pulley is a roller for a z31 timing belt. I modified another PS idler pulley and welded them together.

hoov100 11-17-2007 09:17 AM

hey frank, why not make a serpentine setup while your at it?

snwbrderphat540 11-17-2007 01:12 PM

V belts = better imho

hoov100 11-17-2007 01:38 PM

yeah, but a serpentine belt is easier to replace and if you carry a spare they are alot better then carrying four different v-belts.
.

SHADY280 11-17-2007 07:47 PM

snw, the serpintine is a anti-slippage belt, and can have a constant tension put to it, allowing everything to work to its full potential. and it eliminates all the belts and extra drag on the crank. so you could get more power out of it! the work frank is doing is amazing, i just really look fwd to the day it runs!

frank280zx 11-19-2007 11:27 AM

well ill will do a roro orso to msa in the next 3 years with the car !
so you can see it run

hoov100 11-19-2007 11:58 AM

i still think you might have some slip under high boost.

snwbrderphat540 11-19-2007 03:16 PM

^^^^ i dont think he was planing on running high boost on the s/c thats why its a super/turbo.

lww 11-19-2007 03:24 PM

The supercharger is just to initiate boost under low rpm where the turbo isn't as efficient. It will also improve the spool up time on the turbo minimizing lag so Frank can go big on the turbo without having to wait until 4000 rpm to get boost.

I've been tempted to do this as well, but with a centrifugal supercharger. They're more expensive, but easier to mount and plumb... But I've got enough projects on my plate right now and I'd like to finish at least ONE before I die... :(

snwbrderphat540 11-19-2007 09:03 PM

^^^ centrefugal S/C's actually lag a little to, thats why everyone loves roots but they also rob a lil more driveline power. so its pick and choose....

Lose 3hp to gain 100hp... I dunno if I can stand to lose those three horse powerzzzzz!!!

hoov100 11-19-2007 10:02 PM

what do you lose with a turbo besides your dignity?

snwbrderphat540 11-19-2007 10:59 PM

^^^^ that was weak...

hoov100 11-19-2007 11:03 PM

with all these stupid ass STI's and neons running around having a turbo just aint cool anymore..
