ok i really apologize for the dumb questions but i have noone to talk Z's with in town. i have put out the word that im looking for a 280zxt to swap my n/a. i had my buddy search a salvage near his house he found two 280zx's both turbo i think. both of them have pipes fabricated and welded in in place of the turbos, fabrication from manifold straight to down pipe. could u run a 280zxt without the turbo????? wouldnt it be just the opposite of slapping a turbo on an n/a and not run right at all??????

 

I really REALLY doubt that they are turbo engines with the turbo removed. And that would take some hefty fab work to make a turbo manifold to turbo downpipe adapter... which would be the stupidest, hardest way to do it, not to mention just STUPID period. It would be much easier to swap to an NA manifold. And the odds of finding TWO of them the same way...

Has your friend worked on 280zx's before?

And yes, the L28ET will still run w/o a turbo, but at higher RPM's & WOT it might run quite rich.

Easy way to find out is take some pics and post them on here.

 

maybe he say the "turbo" hood and just assumed it was turbo not realizing they all had that hood in 82-83 Did he see the turbo valve cover or something?

 

no he just told me about the fabbed part installed
