Replacing bulbs in the instrument cluster

I got out of the Z game a few years back, always had regret over that. At any rate I am getting back in with a 1983 280 ZX. I once had an 1981 model and I remember some of the illumination lamps going out on the instrument cluster. I can see how the blubs are placed in the holder and then just twisted into place. I was wanting to know if there was a way to change these out without removing the steering wheel and pulling the cluster out to do it. That seems like a lot to change a bulb. Thanks for any assistance

I would think that removing the steering wheel and all that would be the easiest way. Just reaching up there to remove the speedo cable is a pain for me...

I dont remember how I removed my speedo cable I think I sat upside down in the seat to reach up in there easily lol As for the bulbs Im kinda sure you can get to them the same way.

Steering wheel comes off easy one nut wiggling and tugging. two (maybe four) screws to loosen the module then you can pull it out enough to reach in there and change the bulbs easy than the head stand thing. Or remove driver seat and then do the head stand thing. Test all the bulbs when you can reach them a 9v battery works fine to test them with some jumpers from radio shack.
