Repaired (manual a/c) heater control valve
Repaired (manual a/c) heater control valve
Ok so my old heater valve (AKA water **** valve) leaked
Nobody sells new ones and I dont want to wait for mail order or spend $130
I took the spring clip off the plunger rod, bent back 4 tabs on the actuator assy and removed it, bent back the 4 tabs on the tube assy and removed it, removed the spring clip from the plunger rod and removed it and the cap it held on wich exposed a sealing spring around the rubber seal, ripped it off since the seal was torn already (cause of the leak). Now I had it apart I needed a new seal. Found what I needed at Lowes, a rubber stopper. I drilled the hole through the center of the rubber. Cut off a thick slice (about 1/4 inch, maybe a little more). Used my dremmel with a cut off disk to thin the rubber disk and keep an inner rubber post around the hole. After some working it I had a pice that would fit. Assembly way a pain. I used some tack on the sides of the new rubber seal to help things along. I put the seal in and the hose assy back onto the bracket, re-crimping the tube assy was harder than it may seem, the crimp pressure is what holds its seal on the edges. I reccomned the use of C-clamps for this part. the rest is putting it back the way it came apart, hooked it up and ran the engine up to temp (pressurised the system) and Wala NO LEAK! So I read up as much as I could here and couldent find how to do this so I am sharing the info, Questions are welcome

Nissan may have had them, but the brilliant individuals at my local dealership would rather be doing anything else other than finding the part the customer needs, and laugh about it just as they think I am on hold. Needless to say I fixed it for $3 and some time.
