Oil Pressure

Hi Again. My car's oil pressure gauge seems to be going abit crazy and I think its most prob the sender unit, but to be totally sure what kinda oil pressure readout's should i expect? and oil temp readouts?

Also what kind of fuel consumption do you guys get roughly?

Thanks

Have you checked to make sure that the connection to the sensor isnt coming off? There is a small oil leak on mine and the connection pops off all the time. Usually when it starts getting loose the guage goes crazy. So try checking that.

Yup, common 280ZX problem #1. Bad oil pressure sending unit.

I get 21-24mpg based on my racing.. I mean, driving habbits. This is on my normal commute to work. Mixed highway and city. On roadtrips, I'll average 27-29mpg which means I'm probably getting 30-31mpg while cruising at speed.

While we're on the subject of the oil pressure gauge, does anyone know if the factory sending unit will work with an aftermarket oil pressure gauge? If not, does anyone know if the sending unit that comes with an aftermarket gauge will fit into the same port as the stock sender (I don't even know where that is)?

I know that you can buy aftermarket sending units that do fit the L28. I was advised to not buy one years ago because my gauge won't read exactly the same as it does with the Nissan unit.

Nissan is approx $55. Aftermarket $15-25. I think even if the gauge reads slightly different, the important part is you know you have pressure. So yes, I would say its ok to get a new aftermarket sending unit. I have not tried one myself though.
