Cool Need Advice ??????????????

I have a 1983 nissan 280 zx turbo when I turn the car on in the morning it will idle fine until it warms up the it will start to idle very bad from 600 rpms down to 100 rpms, it was turning off at every red light if I didn;t keep pressing the gas peddle I adjusted the idle screw to idle higher, now it does not turn off but it will idle very bad. any suggestions the car has 127000 miles .

There's no idle screw on the turbo model... unless you are talking about the throttle body stop screw???

Anyway, check your air regulator & all the hoses attached to it.

Sounds like a vacuum leak to me.

check your vacuum lines, check your afm, if that car has one, check your o2 sensors, if that car has them-----and your idle adjust after all that.

good luck--did i miss anything??

Vacuum is a likely culprit. If you adjusted a screw, it was likely the afm mixture adjust screw. You may have been getting bogged down with fuel in low rpms becuase of improper vacuum. Your afm adjust leaned out the mixture to allow the car to warm idle at low speed.

Unplug various vacuum lines and monitor change in idle performance, do the same with valve cover cap. This should track down your problem if it is indeed related to vacuum.

My guess is he adjusted the screw on the throttle body that would deal with the idle. I would say check your O2 sensor and your TPS, and definitely check your timing.

how does it run when you put the pedal to the wood? does it go, or does it kinda seem sluggish, casue if so, change your fuel filter. it can make the world of difference

Get the car warm. Get it to where she idles bad. But stay at your house. Do a few laps around the neighberhood. Pull the large vaccume line coming from the charcoal canister, It's called the Purge. If she idles better then your runing rich. Doing this will alow Unmeterd air intot he intake to help make up for the fact of ver fueling. But don't drive like this. If this work's or even don't work. check the stuff Duowing said. if you can. take the rubber boot off the T/B and see How closed it is(the car should be off) If it's snaped closed. adjust the top screw a lil to open her up. But not much. The turbo's don't have a cold start. So it could be a bad sensor. maby the head temp sesnor

Make sure the coil bracket & IC piece are securely grounded. You won't get spark if those aren't grounded.
