low end power on 83 zx turbo

hi, i just bought a 83 zx turbo 5 speed with 130k miles. it runs good but it has little low end power, but runs like hell after 3rd gear. can anyone fill me in on how these should run off the line, and how much horsepower i should be getting? any info would be greatly appreaciated.

Power should be a result of your RPM's not your gear.

You may be at higher rpm's when you're in 3rd gear which would mean you are making more boost.

At what rpm do you shift gears when you're accelerating?

Ahh! I've done a little bit of diesel driving as well. Diesel's operate at such lower rpm's, at least the 16 and 18 gear trucks I was playing with, you never get above about 3500 rpm!

These gas motors like it when they're hard accelerating up into the 5500 rpm range, especially the turbo's!

Enjoy!
