just wondering
my powersteering pump is fine but it leaks like crazy from the cap, I have on ordered but i's still makeing a puddle any warever it goes. If i just slip off the belt... will anything bad happen? I've never actualy done it before and with my luck.....
that's what i figured, i'm tired of buying so much powersteering fuel it's not cheep at the gas station and i go through 4 of thoes little bottels a week.. and it's getting allover the pass side of the motor. eventualy it'll start eating at the hoses and wires...
Actually it will start ruining the bushings, and the idler arm.
That is what happened to my '81. When I had a power steering leak. I couldn't get it aligned because the fluid ruined my bushings, and idler arm. Yeah get that belt off ASAP!
And hopefully you didn't ruin your front-end.

I pulle out my entire power steering system because I hate the feel of powersteering. Sure it sucks not having PS in a parking lot, but you more than make up for it on the open road or track. All I did was pull the pump and all the hoses from my car. I then got two really thick nuts to slide over the two bolts that hold the powersteering hoses to the steering box, and used the stock brass(or copper ?) washers to seal it up. Make sure the stearing box is filled with fluid and properly bled before you seal up to drive it, other wise you'll damage you box. I haven't had a problem with anything and I get the quick steering ratio that only came with the powersteering/steering box equipped cars. They had the lowest turns to lock of any of the other steering setups.
