Intake Manifold Modification

Meant to post these pics a couple of months ago. I was having a hard time getting to the intake and exhaust manifold bolts underneath after installing a rebuilt head and new header. Read on this forum about a few guys cutting out the webbing on the intake and it made a huge difference. I can see/reach everything now. just used my air tools/body saw and made short work of it.

Nice! Lot of work, but it helps. Just an FYI... you need to reinstall the heat shield to prevent heat soak into your intake mani.

I de-webbed a turbo intake a few years ago (N42 Left - L28ET Right)...

Not sure what exact tools tamug92 used, but:

We've discussed dewebbing before... thus the reason for research before work.

^This is the process I used. Makes things -way- easy, though mine had more of a pointed tip. Same concept.

yup i did it a few years back. i found the intake trapped tons of hot air beneath it so i cut the webbing out. mine doesnt look pretty but i never finished it as my car was my dd. now im gonna build a better intake with large runners. you definetly need the heat shield, it lowered the manifold temps quite a bit on top of what cutting the webbing out did.

That looks like half way between a ferrous style burr and a helical cut aluminum bit. There is a straight helical cut that's designed more for aluminum. You'll find the burr load's up pretty easily and it's a bit of a pain to clean it out. I use a dental pick to get the chunks out of the burr. Also cutting wax helps cut faster and extends the life of your bits...

I'm actually about to do another manifold myself. Gotta keep the Z up as my DD, yet still want to put on my 60mm TB. Sucks that I don't have an air compressor anymore, though.

Just wne to local production tool and they're ordering me a bit like nismo's except it's for aluminum. Showed them the pic told em what I'm doing and he opened up a book and said this ones better. Getting that, 3 1in flapper wheels and a stick to clean **** off sandpaper. Only costing me $30 for everything. I'm going to atempt this on my extra turbo intake before doing my dd intake. Any tips for someone never done this before? Especially on the porting...

can this be done on the vehicle or do you have to remove first?

Anything is "possible", but leaving it on the car you'd probably be suicidal by the time you finish. The intake is fairly simple to remove... don't make it harder than it needs to be.
