Thumbs down hooked cables up backwards and now 280zx wont start. please help

i just purchased a 1983 datsun 280zx. the only problem was it needed a batery, but it ran great.i flaged someone down to give me a jumpstart to go get a battery. a guy in an older truck had stopped to give a jump. so i hooked up my cables correctly and got in the car. i tried to start it and it wouldnt turn over but it did try to crank. then i saw a little smoke come from near the batery, so i stoped. i got out and noticed the guy hooked his cables up backwards. i checked and noticed it fried a fuse link near the batery. i replaced the fuse link and the batery, but the car still will not start. it sounds like a car that is out of gas. i was wondering what is wrong. i thought it could be the computer or maby burnt the fuel pump. but i dont know too much about datsuns and i dont have moneyto fix the wrong parts. thank you for the help. now

It's quite possible that it fried the ECU. Pull the coil wire off at the distrib & check for spark... if so, pull a spark plug to see if it's wet (fuel soaked). If not, start checking the ECU. Or... if you have a spare ECU, swap them.

Yep I do think you fried ythe ECU/ECM

If so I have a box full of good ones I no longer need about 10-15 plus and you can have the whole box for 50.00

Question 280Zx

Yes Fusable links right in front of the Battery ,Under the Plastic dome looking item mounted on the fender well.use a jumper or a DVM.But if you are a Zdzr you would think that upon see the cables backwards the very first thing to do was see if the fuseable links feel mushy
