easier in car. read up on how not to drop the cam tensioner out with a block of wood. If you don't move anything the cam timing will be fine. don't forget the two small bolts at the front of the engine. you may have to bump it with a piece of wood to get it to move. easier if you have a buddy to help (even a wife unit will work if she is sturdy). you can do it and leave the manifolds in attached.

..and I've got a question for you. Do you have a piece of software that capitalizes every word for you? I've seen it a thousand times where ppl can't be bothered to capitalize the begining of a sentance or typing in all caps...

And remember, when you remove a bolt/screw you are only ****ing yourself in the long run but not using the correct size/shape.

This is a 280zx turbo right?

-Disconnect exhaust from bottom of turbo down pipe
-Remove all rubber intake lines / boots
-Remove distributor & wires
-Disconnect oil feed at top of turbo
-Drain coolant
-Remove everything else in the way (I don't feel like typing every little thing)
-Remove valve cover
-Install wood block in between chain (I have already posted detailed info on this process: https://www.zdriver.com/forums/240z-280zxt-s30-s130-tech-tips-275/aftermarket-cams-cam-removal-installation-pics-19939/)
-Remove cam sprocket
-Loosen head bolts in opposite order of install (see FSM)
-Hook up engine hoist / chain to head using secured bolts / hooks (this has been discussed before too).
-Remove head bolts
-Pull head off

Done. All this is explained in detail w/ pics in the FSM too.

Sorry I Havent Updated But I Had My Internet Down So When I Got My Head Off And Took It To The Machine Shop They Found A Crack So I Had To get A New Head. I Am Going To Get One Of Of My 81 But The Bolts That Connect The Manifold To The Downpipe Are Stripped So I Was Wondering If Anyone Has Removed The Head While Still Connected To The Manifold And Downpipe Or Would It Even Be Possible Space Wise To Take It Out

Pretty Simple To Pull The Motor Out Imo, Since I've Done It About Three Or Four Times On Two Different Z Cars. Putting It Back In Is The Kind Of Complicated Part If You've Never Done It Before.

But If You Like Back Problems Like Nobody's Business, You Can Try To Pull The Head Off With The Intake/Exhaust Still Attached, The Head Alone Only Weighs About 70 Lbs, Unless You're Using A Lift, In Which, Pull The Engine Out
